Rain Delay

Persistent rain forced postponement of Saturday’s Kroger 250 Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

The race has been rescheduled for noon ET on Monday at the .526-mile short track. Rick Crawford won the pole for the Kroger 250 during Saturday morning’s time trials before rain washed out the race itself, as well as two scheduled Sprint Cup practice sessions.

I was real busy today, so it’s nice to know I can still watch the truck race on Monday.

Stupid Move, Stupid Response.

NASCAR Truck Series team owner Billy Ballew was arrested for drunk driving at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Wednesday night.

Ballew, whose No. 51 Toyota truck is scheduled to be driven by Kyle Busch in Saturday’s American Commercial Lines 200, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he was arrested on AMS property in Hampton, Ga.

Ballew told the paper he was arrested on the racetrack property. He acknowledged he had a mixed drink with him in the car when arrested by a Henry County sheriff’s department sergeant. He said he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

“I am 100 percent sure that it will be dropped,” Ballew told the paper. “It was only one drink. I was not drunk. I was on Atlanta Motor Speedway property. I was not on the highway.”

But (hic) officer, it’s not like I was sitting behind the wheel of a car with an alcoholic (hic) drink in my hand. Oh wait… Just own up to what you did, and move on.

Of course he is innocent until proven guilty, and he may not have been drunk, but he had no business sitting behind the wheel of a car with alcohol in his hand. Stupid move.

Benson Is Back

I thought I read that Johnny Benson left Bill Davis Racing because he wanted to focus on other things, besides racing? Now he has signed with a different team?

Johnny Benson will be back to defend his championship in 2009.

Red Horse Racing announced Monday that it will expand to two teams for the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season with the addition of Benson to the team’s roster.

Benson, the 1995 NASCAR Busch Series champion and 1996 Winston Cup Series Rookie of the Year, will join teammate David Starr in the Red Horse Racing stable. Benson will pilot the team’s No. 1 Toyota with Starr in the No. 11 Tundra.

I bet the people at Bill Davis Racing are not too happy about that. If he wasn’t happy at BDR he could have at least said so.

Benson & BDR Are Calling It Quits

This just doesn’t make sense to me.

Craftsman Trucks Series points leader Johnny Benson will be leaving Bill Davis Racing at season’s end.

The 45-year-old leads the Trucks series by six points over Ron Hornaday Jr. with two races remaining, including Friday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Benson, who raced in NASCAR’s Winston Cup level for a number of teams from 1996-2003, recorded 14 victories in the NCTS, placed second in points in 2006 and was third a year ago.

“Johnny Benson has been a huge part of our success in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series,” team owner Bill Davis said in a statement . “Johnny, as well as our other veteran driver, Mike Skinner, have helped us get our NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series program where it is today, and I hate to see him go.

Johnny Benson is a rock star in the Craftsman Truck Series. He’s been second or third in the final standings for the past two years and he is currently leading in points. Benson says he wants to do something different, and may even retire.

If he doesn’t retire, what else is there to do? Lose?

It’s Time To Go Camping

Wow. Camping World is taking over sponsorship of the truck series. I wonder if that means any “camping” related companies won’t be allowed to sponsor trucks?

On a sidenote, check out the following paragraph from the article. Notice anything?

Camping World on Thursday was named the new sponsor for NASCAR’s Truck Series.

The sponsorship deal is four seven years.

Camping World has been a prominent brand in NASCAR and especially the Truck Series, sponsoring the Kevin Harvick Inc. No. 33 Chevrolet that Ron Hornaday Jr. drove to a championship last season.

Four seven years is a long time.

Kyle Busch Wins Truck Race

I don’t watch the Craftsman Truck races too often, I just don’t have the time to sit down and watch three races each week. This week’s race, however, found its way onto my big screen. It was a pretty good race, IMHO.

Kyle Busch finally found his way to Victory Lane.

After a pair of second-place finishes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Nationwide Series events, followed by a fourth in the Sprint Cup Daytona 500 last week, Busch cruised to an easy victory Saturday in the San Bernardino County 200.

It was Busch’s seventh Craftsman Truck series win and first in California as he led 51 of 100 laps in a Toyota Tundra and crossed the finish lane over three seconds ahead of Todd Bodine.

“Well, Todd got going there pretty good but my truck was great,” said Busch, who started 20th and took the lead for the first time just 24 laps in. “The guys gave me an awesome truck, just like last week in Daytona.

Following Bodine’s Toyota were the Toyota’s of Johnny Benson and Terry Cook, along with polesitter Ron Hornaday Jr.’s Chevrolet Silverado.

With rain cancelling qualifying and most of the practice session, it’s going to be interesting tomorrow to watch the Sprint Cup race. The Nationwide race, which was scheduled for today, is now going to be held one hour after the Sprint Cup race tomorrow. It’s scheduled to start in California at 9pm ET. Of course, the Sprint race starts at 3:30.

I hope the Rocketman can make it two in a row. That would be awesome.
