Biffle Wins Nationwide Race At Phoenix
Sphere: Related ContentA spate of late caution periods played into Greg Biffle’s hands Friday night, as the driver of the No. 16 Ford held off Jason Leffler to win the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, team owner Jack Roush’s 100th victory in the series.
Biffle beat Leffler to the stripe by .338 seconds in a green-white-checkered-flag finish to win his second Nationwide race of the season and the 20th of his career. Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick completed the top five.
Biffle Bruised
Greg Biffle bruised his rubs while fishing earlier this week and will not race in the Nationwide Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Biffle, who will race in the premier Sprint Cup Series event, said he was hurt Tuesday night when he jumped from the dock to the boat and slipped in a wet spot. He banged his right side on the boat.
“I wish I had a better story, I really do,” he said Friday at Bristol. “It’s just one of those freak, stupid accidents where you take a fall and you have no way to stop it or brace it or grab because I was over top of water. You’re gonna land on your ribs with all your weight, plus you jumped on top of it, so it was a stupid deal.
I hope he’s good to go for Sunday.

I’m shocked Greg Biffle was able to make the comeback for the win. I guess everyone had a bit of bad luck in Vegas today.
Greg Biffle has snapped a 76-race winless streak by winning the Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Biffle ran out of gas while leading with 54 laps to go Saturday, but cycled back into the lead after every other driver who took a turn leading ran into their own problems.
Congrats to the #16 team.

About the only thing missing from the NASCAR Nextel Cup LifeLock 400 at Kansas Speedway was the tornado at the beginning of “The Wizard of Oz.”
When Greg Biffle finally drove to victory when the race was called for darkness over six hours after it originally started, there were two red-flag periods because of rain, including one that lasted four hours, 13 minutes and 14 seconds after it appeared Tony Stewart had won this race for the second year in a row.
Even Biffle’s victory was momentarily in doubt as his Ford Fusion ran out of gas on the final lap and he could not keep up with the pace car. But NASCAR deemed him the victor due to the field being frozen when the final caution flag flew with four laps remaining.
Greg Biffle Fined For Skipping Interview
Tony Stewart was fined for something he said, while Greg Biffle was fined for not talking at all.
Greg Biffle was fined $5,000 and put on probation until Dec. 31 for skipping a press-box interview following his second-place finish in the Kroger 200 Busch Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park last week.
Biffle said Wednesday that he talked to reporters on pit road after the race Saturday night but avoided the press box because of the huge crowd.
“I want to be clear that I was very excited about the second-place finish and was in no hurry to leave,” he said in a statement released by his team. “It just seemed unreasonable at the time to try to get to the press box as the grandstands were emptying in the opposite direction.”
