Jeff Burton Wins At Lowe’s Motor Speedway
Jeff Burton pulled off an excellent win on Saturday night.
Jeff Burton failed to win a championship when he was anointed NASCAR’s next big star, the guy everyone thought would challenge for multiple titles.
He couldn’t win one years later, when, after years of mediocrity, he suddenly found himself back in the mix.
A win Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway rocketed Burton onto Jimmie Johnson’s bumper with five races to go to decide the championship, and Burton is convinced he’s as capable of winning a title now as he was when he was a young hotshot.
Burton and his team took a gamble late in the race and it paid off big time. He’s just 69 points behind Jimmie Johnson with 5 races left in the Chase. Finally, a reason to be excited during the Chase.

I was wondering if Richard Childress Racing would be announcing anything regarding the upcoming sponsor change for 2009. I’m gald to see Caterpillar jumping on board with Jeff Burton, that’s awesome.
Caterpillar Inc. and Richard Childress Racing have agreed to a multi-year partnership for the No. 31 Chevrolet driven by Jeff Burton beginning with the 2009 Sprint Cup Series season.
Burton, a 20-time winner in Cup Series competition, is currently second in the 2008 point standings with one victory, four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in the season’s first 15 races. The No. 31 team has made the Chase the past two seasons, finishing seventh in 2006 and eighth last year.
It’s funny though. I still think Sprint is a bunch of pansy-asses because they won’t allow the AT&T logo to remain on the car. Competition my ass. When it comes to the choice between AT&T and Sprint, their is no competition. People are going to pick AT&T 3 to 1 over Sprint, whether or not the AT&T logo is on the car.

Jeff Burton Wins Wild Race At Bristol
With two laps to go, the race was his to lose, and lose he did. Tony Stewart lost the race because Kevin Harvick bumped into him forcing the caution.
With Tony out of contention, it was his teammate Denny Hamlin’s race to lose, and lose he did. On the restart his car failed to pick up fuel and he sputtered.
Out of nowhere, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and Clint Bowyer flew across the finish line.
Just like most Bristol races, you have no idea who is going to win until the last lap.
Tony Stewart should have won the race. And when he didn’t, it gave Denny Hamlin a clear shot at victory.
But the Joe Gibbs Racing drivers failed to seal the deal—again—at Bristol Motor Speedway, and Jeff Burton and his Richard Childress Racing teammates were there to capitalize.
Burton scored his first victory at Bristol Motor Speedway, leading teammates Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer to the first 1-2-3 sweep in RCR history by pouncing when the JGR drivers faltered at the very end Sunday.
“We did the little things right,” Burton said. “That’s the sign that this team’s matured. That’s the sign of a team that’s ready to take advantage of situations. I won’t lose sleep tonight because somebody says, ‘We had a faster car.’
“All I know is we’ve got the trophy.”
Congratulations Jeff. It was great seeing that AT&T logo in Victory Lane!
AT&T Logos Back On #31
Wow, I didn’t see this coming. This is awesome news, even if it is only for this season and next season. Wow. Kudos to NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing for working this out, outside of the courtroom!
The title sponsor of NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Series has reached an agreement with Richard Childress Racing that will allow the No. 31 car of Jeff Burton to compete while bearing the logos of primary sponsor AT&T.
Under the terms of the agreement, RCR will be able to compete with AT&T logos through the end of next season, but Burton’s car must have a new sponsor by 2009. RCR employees began applying AT&T decals to the No. 31 car and transporter early Friday afternoon at Richmond International Raceway.
“We’re ready to move forward,” NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter said. “I think it’s really good, because no one likes litigation.”

Jeff Burton Wins Busch Race At California
It’s nice to see the good guys win sometimes!
Jeff Burton turned a late pit stop and fresh tires into a Busch Series win Saturday night at California Speedway.
He passed Kyle Busch for the lead just eight laps from the end of the Camping World 300 and pulled away to win by 2.859 seconds — about 12 car-lengths — as Busch barely held off pole-winner Denny Hamlin for second place.
AT&T To Race Plain Orange Car
The only thing that’s going to come from all this, if NASCAR keeps insisting on being stupid, is more fans, like myself are going to sign up with AT&T.
The fight between NASCAR and AT&T heated up Friday when the telecommunications giant refused to use a paint scheme or logos on Jeff Burton’s car at Bristol Motor Speedway.
AT&T is still sponsoring the car but had to remove its logos because the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned an injunction that had permitted their use.
At issue is if AT&T is allowed as a sponsor under NASCAR’s exclusivity agreement with series sponsor Sprint Nextel.
I think Jeff Burton summed it up best though.
‘I think reasonable people can come to reasonable solutions, and I’m still holding on to that,” Burton said. “In order for that to work, people have to be willing to be reasonable. Hopefully, we can get there. I can’t see where it is in the sport’s best interest to ask a sponsor who has been part of this thing for years to not be here.”
