Truex Officially Staying With DEI
I guess it’s official now. Word leaked out last week that Martin Truex, Jr. was staying with DEI.
Martin Truex Jr. finally agreed to a contract extension with Dale Earnhardt Inc. on Wednesday that keeps him in the No. 1 Chevrolet at least through 2009.
The two sides held a mutual option on the 2009 season, but Truex had been reluctant to commit even though DEI was eager to retain him. He tested the market, and had verbally agreed to stay with the team several weeks ago, but declined signing anything.
Now that he’s signed, the two sides are working on a longer deal.
A longer deal? Wow. They have a lot of confidence in him don’t they? Is he worth it? Maybe so. Only time will tell, huh?
Truex Stays Put At DEI
Finally, maybe we will stop hearing all of the rumors and such about Martin Truex, Jr. taking rides at any one of the other race teams. It seems he has agreed to stay put at DEI.
Martin Truex Jr. apparently is staying put at Dale Earnhardt Inc.
The 28-year-old New Jersey native has agreed in principle to a two-year deal that will keep him at DEI through the 2010 season, according to a report Saturday on ESPN.com.
Truex, who was set to become a free agent at the end of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, had been rumored to take over the No. 12 Dodge at Penske Racing, the No. 4 Chevrolet at newly-formed Stewart-Haas Racing and the No. 33 Chevrolet at Richard Childress Racing.
I haven’t really paid much attention to Truex, to be honest. It really didn’t matter to me where he ended up. If Ryan Newman doesn’t end up at Stewart-Haas, I really hope he ends up at RCR.
Truex Receives Largest Consistent NASCAR Fine
When people said that Martin Truex, Jr. was going to face a stiff fine this week, they were not kidding. Apparently, in their consistent wisdom, the powers that be at NASCAR have decided that having a roof that does not match their template exactly is a slightly more serious violation, than say, adding propylene oxide to your fuel.
Martin Truex Jr.’s chances of qualifying for NASCAR’s “Chase for the Championship” may have ended on Tuesday.
Treux’s bid to make the Sprint Cup’s version of the playoffs took a severe hit when NASCAR penalized his team 150 points for bringing an illegal car to Daytona last week.
The penalty drops Truex four spots to 18th in the standings, with eight races remaining before the Chase commences at New Hampshire in September. He sits 238 points behind Tony Stewart, who holds the 12th and final qualifying spot.
Last season, Michael Waltrip faced a huge fine because some moron added that substance to his engine. Who knew that a slight modification of the roof would be more of a concern to the top dogs.
<sarcasm>Can you imagine what’s going to happen if NASCAR’s consistency starts to wear off. </sarcasm>
