Another Worthless Role Model
There was a time when Marion Jones could have been a role model to young people everywhere. She seemingly worked hard to get where she was, and her determination seemed to have paid off.
As I mentioned last week, she was sentenced to six months in prison for lying to investigators.
Well, the no-good liar was on Oprah today, where she said,
She admitted she was disappointed that she was not give a probation-only sentence, as she and her attorneys hoped for.
“I put myself in a position to have somebody else determine my immediate future,” she said. “I made that decision. I have to live with it, my family has to live with it. With the grace of God we’ll get through it and come out even better at the other end.”
How did she put herself in a position to have somebody else determine her immediate future? She was convicted of LYING, not doping. Her trainer told her he was not using sterioids on her, but she eventually found out the truth. When she was asked about it, she LIED. She was not convicted because she was caught doping. She is going to prison because SHE chose to LIE about it when investigators asked her about the steriod use.
What part of that involved someone else determining her immediate future? She pretty much sealed up her future when she chose to be untruthful. She chose her future when she LIED to investigators.
I am so sick of people and their lack of personal accountability. All she had to do was tell the truth. Oh sure, she still would have lost her medals, and people would think she was scum. Now we just think she’s an untrustworthy scum. She deserves to go to prison, if only to give her time to learn she must accept the responsibility for her own actions and stop blaming everyone else.

Marion Jones was sentenced today and she pleaded with the judge for leniency.
Former Olympic champion Marion Jones was sentenced Friday to six months in prison for lying to investigators about performance-enhancing drugs and a check-fraud scam.
She was ordered to surrender on March 11 to begin serving her term. Jones also was given two years’ probation and supervised release, during which she will be required to perform 800 hours of community service.
The judge sentenced Jones despite her plea that he not separate her from her children, “even for a short period of time.” “I ask you to be as merciful as a human being can be,” she said.
And the judge turned around and sentenced her to the maximum called for under her plea deal. That’s right, he made an example out of her, which is exactly what should have been done.
She asked the judge not to take her away from her children, maybe she should have thought about that before she started lying to investigators. If you don’t want to be separated from your children, why would you do something so stupid?
The moral of the story? Don’t be a dope.
