I Remember My First Used Car

Twenty years ago I found myself in a position where I had to file bankruptcy. I didn’t have much at the time but I lost most of it, including the truck I was driving at the time that was repossessed in the middle of the night, even though I had brought that account current. Long story.

Anyway, soon after the bankruptcy, I found myself in search of any one who would give me a bad credit car loan. At the time, there was no internet, well, not like there is today anyway. So finding the right place to help you was nearly impossible and the only people willing to take a chance on you were the guys you probably didn’t want to be dealing with in the first place.

If there had been online locations to help me apply for auto loans bad credit and all, I would have jumped at the opportunity. Back then, filing bankruptcy seemed to have more of an effect on people. Recently, I have heard of people filing bankruptcy and just six months later they have new credit cards and they’re driving new cars.

Places that offer a quick and easy application process with a no-nonsense approach are still hard to find, but if you are persistent you will find that obtaining bad credit auto loans is not nearly as impossible as you probably think it is.

Why did I bring this up tonight? I was thinking of the little blue car I drove off that used car lot that had obviously belonged to a NASCAR fan before I got it. Weird how you think of these things after eating donuts at 2 am.

Back In The Day

Many moons ago, I worked as a food server at several different hotel/casinos in three different states. It was always quite the adventure, but nothing ever compared to the days (and nights) that I would help unload the trucks as they arrived. Imagine my excitement after moving over 1000 pounds of potatoes from the back of the building, around the building, in through the casino, and all the way back to the restaurant, only to find that the viking access automatic gate was unlocked and all I had to do was press this tiny little button on a box hanging on the wall. I sure felt beat up that night.

One of the casinos I worked at hosted a motorcycle rally every year and we were always busy that week. As part of my job I would help check in the produce coming in and make sure we actually received the items we ordered. It took me a few weeks to get into a rythym but once I did, there was no stopping me. I was much like a us automatic swing gate. Always dependable, and always moving from side to side to get the job done.

One of my favorite parts of the rallies were the races they would hold. Wow. Talk about fun. Well, until some of the racers got caught racing while under the influence of some substance. Then it was fun watching them try to figure out how to get the apollo sliding gate that stood between them and their bikes open. If that wasn’t entertainment, I don’t know what is.

Quality Over Quantity

Today was a very emotional day.

It all started at 6:30 when the alarm went off and I quickly woke up the entire family. There was never any doubt that we would all go together to take Flash to this very important appointment today.

We arrived about 20 minutes early, which was amazing seeing how the Atlanta traffic was. After completing the new patient registration form, they took us all into a small 10×15 room. I have to admire the kids for sitting there, listening to things they could not understand, keeping quiet so we could comprehend what the veterinarian was telling us.

Flash’s prognosis is not good. The deterioration in the bone is so bad that he is now at the point that just walking could cause hairline fractures and more pain. The veterinarian explained everything to us, he covered all the options. I am so glad he did.

The first thing Flash needs is an immediate amputation of his right front leg. They will have to take the shoulder and the shoulder blade too. His recovery from the amputation will be rather quick, but he will never recover from the cancer.

The veterinarian explained that there is no doubt the cancer has spread and Flash has at best 6 months to 1 year left with us. He discussed the options for chemotherapy, but even with the treatment that shows the best results, the most Flash gains is an additional 6 months to 1 year.

We will never know what Flash is thinking, or what he wants. I do know that if it were me, I would choose the quality of life over the quantity. It just seems more logical to me to allow him to live as a happy 3 legged dog for 6 months to a year, rather than have him laying around listless, drooling, in a heap of fur on the floor, too sick to notice whether or not we were even in the room.

So for now, we are planning on the amputation. He has pain pills to get him through til we can get that done in the next week or so, and after that is done, we will take it from there.

Tomorrow Is The Day

Tomorrow is going to be a long day. We have an appointment at 9 am at the vet that is clear across the universe and will take us an hour and a half to get there (if traffic keeps moving smoothly).

Depending on the outcome at the vet, tomorrow’s posts may be a bit on the light side. Keep your fingers crossed and keep saying those prayers.

Pray For Flash

Our dog Flash has been limping for the last week or two, so we took him to the vet today. It turns out he has cancer. We have another appointment on Tuesday to find out how bad it is, and what we can do for him.

I know to many of you he is just a dog, but he’s a part of our family and I would appreciate some prayers if you’re so inclined.

Penalty On #99 Stands

Wow. NASCAR was consistent on this one. They proved they can consistently hand down stupid penalties for stupid reasons. If no one was involved in intentionally “cheating” I don’t see why it’s a problem, but then again, I iz not so smart az thowse NASCAR doods.

An appeals committee on Wednesday upheld the penalty that was levied against Carl Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team when his race-winning car failed inspection at Dover.

Edwards’ car did not meet minimum height requirements, and NASCAR docked him 25 points. Crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $25,000 and car owner Jack Roush was docked 25 car owner points.

Roush Fenway Racing appealed, claiming a jack bolt failed and caused the car to be too low. They argued that the car being low hurt performance, and that 25 points was too steep a penalty during the Chase for the championship.
